BC Christian Academy Breaks Ground on New Kids Club Building
On Friday, June 26, 2026, British Columbia Christian Academy (BCCA) celebrated a historic milestone with the official groundbreaking ceremony for its new 11,000-square-foot, two-storey Kids Club Building at the school’s Port Coquitlam campus.
Held at 2:30 p.m., the ceremony brought together government leaders, board members, school leadership, donors, families, community partners, and Kids Club children to celebrate the beginning of a transformative project that will expand childcare services and strengthen Christian education for generations to come.
Among the distinguished guests were Senator Yonah Martin of the Parliament of Canada, Member of Parliament Ron McKinnon, BC Christian Academy Foundation Chair Teresa Black Hughes, former BCCA Board Chair Noel Asirvatham, BCCA Board Chair Calvin Gray, Board Members Denise Peters and Don Knodel, Executive Director Ian Jarvie, Head Principal Dr. Christian Klaue, Elementary Principal Beth Peters, Middle School Principal Miguel Zhou, members of the Fictorie Construction Management team, staff, parents, students, and community supporters.
The program began with welcoming remarks from Executive Director Ian Jarvie, followed by a prayer of dedication led by Board Chair Calvin Gray. Foundation Chair Teresa Black Hughes offered words of encouragement, while Senator Yonah Martin and MP Ron McKinnon shared congratulatory remarks recognizing the importance of investing in children, families, and Christian education. The ceremony also featured an inspiring message from Theresa Lee, Kids Club Director, and a heartfelt Scripture reading of Psalm 127:1 by a Kids Club student:
“Unless the Lord builds the house, those who build it labor in vain. Unless the Lord watches over the city, the watchman stays awake in vain. “
The celebration culminated with the ceremonial turning of the first soil by dignitaries, board members, and project representatives, marking the official start of construction.
Construction is scheduled to begin in July 2026, with completion anticipated in August 2027. The new facility will feature seven classrooms and provide space for up to 144 children, significantly expanding BCCA’s ability to serve families while advancing its mission of providing Christ-centred education and care.
Despite the rain, the ceremony was filled with warmth, joy, and hope as guests gathered to celebrate this exciting new chapter in BCCA’s history. The afternoon concluded with a reception in the school gymnasium. More than the groundbreaking of a new building, the occasion marked the foundation of a lasting legacy of Christ-centred education that will serve children, families, and the community for generations to come.
